Kayla Painter presents Infinite You, the producer’s long-awaited extended EP, following on from her highly acclaimed single ‘Balloons in the Arcade’ which was supported heavily on 6Music and dubbed ‘Best New Music of 2022’ by Steve Lamacq.
2022 saw Kayla’s first UK AV headline tour following her high-profile tour supporting Rival Consoles (Erased Tapes), in line with her EP release ‘Somewhen’, which was celebrated across 6Music throughout the campaign and concluded being named ‘best ambient track of 2021’ by Hannah Peel (BBC Radio 3)
‘Infinite You’ EP is a much-awaited longer release from Painter marking the first ever vinyl release from the producer. Joining forces with the label Castles in Space, the EP joins a catalogue of well regarded and pivotal electronic releases on the label. Castles in Space, operating since 2015, have established themselves as key players on the electronic music scene, releasing forward-thinking electronic music taking pride in the story behind the music through beautiful analogue products, their in house magazine ‘Moonbuilding’, and their annual sell out festival ‘Levitation’, held against the stunning backdrop of Whitby. Kayla’s performance at the recent Levitation ’22 was delivered to an ecstatic crowd and was followed by electronic music legends, The Orb.
Following the success of Balloons in the Arcade, a special edition EP release ‘Planet 9’ was welcomed by fans in August ‘22. Comprising of 9 tracks, Planet 9 showcases a journey through some of Painters most exciting tracks in the past two years (including Balloons in the Arcade) along with 2 new exclusive tracks. The initial tape sold out immediately with fans demanding a second pressing which sold out in record time too.
2021 saw heavy support for the previous EP ‘Somewhen’ – including the singles “Mangrove Forest” and “Unseen and Unknown” – with multiple spins from Steve Lamacq, Tom Ravenscroft, Nemone and others across BBC 6Music, BBC Introducing, Radio X, and official playlisting on Amazing Radio.
“Infinite You” is a statement of intent. Kayla’s biggest release to date, is an exploration in sonic experimentation, electroacoustic composition, blending the real and the surreal.
Kayla says of the inspiration behind the new EP, “We measure time and our experience on earth in a particular way, but in space none of those rules apply. We like to think we understand our existence, but when you start to look into space, you realise we don’t really understand much at all.
‘Infinite You’ explores multiple possibilities of existence, it’s about looking to the universe and questioning everything we thought we knew.”
