Summer 2025

Moonbuilding

Good lord, Moonbuilding Issue 6 has taken its sweet time. But don’t look at us, this handsome A5 zine has a mind of its own. Magic like this is out of our hands. Or as ABC’s ‘Poison Arrow’ put it, “she comes when she comes”. But it’s here. Finally. And anyway, in the grand scheme it’s best not to ask how it’s happened, but how quickly you can get your hands on a copy.

So what have we got? Well, taking pole position on the cover of the Summer 2025 issue is the utterly unique Loula Yorke. In our bumper interview we talk about how she got here and where she’s going. As usual, it is a chunky read, you won’t find these artists interviewed like this anywhere else. It is a proper rummage around in their world, musically, humanly, psychologically, probably even metaphysically.

As always the issue comes with an accompanying CD. This one is a Loula Yorke collection called ‘How Did We Get Here’, which was compiled by artist herself and charts her rise and rise. The resulting 11-tracker will take you on a joy ride through her career to this point and it is utterly, totally, absolutely, exclusive to Moonbuilding.

Elsewhere, we welcome Frances Castle and her brilliant Clay Pipe label in our Label’s We Love spot, ‘This Is Memorial Device’ author David Keenan joins us to talk about ‘Volcanic Tongue’, his first collection of music writing and the wonderful Janine A’Bear ponders our There’s A First Time For Everything questions.

We round up an absolute mountain of recent releases and offer our thoughts on the best albums from the last few months, featuring releases from Loula Yorke, Cate Brooks, Gordon Chapman-Fox, 30 Door Key and Sarno Ultra. We pick out a pile of the best books, indie mags and zines that have crossed our desk of late, there’s an all-new column from The Orb’s Alex Paterson all about appearing on ‘Top Of The Pops’ and a brand-new installment of Steven Appleby’s famous/brilliant Captain Star cartoon strip.
