Proto Murk book one, a psychedelic, inter-dimensional odyssey:
Beneath a bleak railway station, a hive of mutated mole rats dwell. Creating inter-dimensional music with instruments powered by a symbiosis of power root and sentient grubs.
However, power root is in short supply, and plucky mole rat, ‘N’goni Toni’, is chosen to go in search of the Pink Forest where power root grows. An arduous journey lies ahead to locate a forest glowing with radioactivity, inhabited by nuclear shepherds and their flocks of translucent sheep.
Sleep doesn’t always offer respite; dreamers find themselves in The Simalcrum. A hostile land ruled over by Mopoid and policed by oversized, angry Nervous Future Creeps. Yet even in this desolate
domain, there are flies, passing freely between dimensions, beholden to no one.
In the planet’s orbit, the moilon, a gigantic space clam, traverses the void, home to a colony of scientifically precocious crows and their
ingenious mingling of mollusc and vintage technology. They penetrate dimensional barriers to facilitate the musical morphing of the mole
rats.
Who is the mysterious ‘Bladder Boy’? Denizen of the Black Forest, flowing tendrils tasting the air around his solitary blank eye pit? Will he help or hinder Toni in his quest?
To accompany the book, we are proud to present a soundtrack conjured from the fecund imagination of Twilight Sequence. Representing the multidimensional drama of Toni’s journey with
a potent sonic brew.
Zeke Clough:
Back in 2005, Zeke was beavering away on various zines when he received a letter from his old pal Sam Shackleton. That fateful missive led to a 20 year run of creating graphics for electronic music related projects.
Initially working for Shack & Appleblim’s Skull Disco label, he went on to work with artists and labels such as Planet Mu/Ekoplekz, The Bug/Ninja Tune, Honest Jon’s, Bleep, Warp, the Japanese
fashion label Public Image, CHXFX and Andrew Liles.
In recent years he has worked a lot with CiS. Producing an animated video for Apta in collaboration with Johnny Wood. He did the pixel
art for Apta’s Pool release and has worked extensively with Twilight Sequence.
He has been toiling away at comics for years and completing this first book of the Proto Murk series has finally scratched a persistent itch.
Twilight Sequence:
“Twilight Sequence” is the modular synth project of Matthew J Saunders. Analogue modular synth music discovered in the face of awesome nature, studied and cared for at The Twilight Research Centre, Somerset. Zeke and Matthew have been collaborating for almost four years.
